2722 ASRestore Treatment B
2722 ASRT-B is a safe, non-toxic treatment for concrete affected by Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR). The 2722 ASRTB has been reformulated using Lithium Nitrate, with an innovative, premium surfactant package designed to saturate deeper into the concrete, as well as improve distribution of the lithium within the capillaries of the ASR affected slab. This advancement will allow more Lithium to move freely within the concrete thereby mitigating additional ASR gel. ASR gel is formed when alkalis from the cement raw materials or environmental contaminant, such as marine or deicing salts, react with silica minerals in the aggregate. These gels swell when they are in contact with water and generate destructive expansion. This expansion causes cracks in the concrete allowing more water to penetrate thus accelerating the damage and bringing a premature end to the life of your concrete slabs. If diagnosed early, the ASRestore System, properly applied, can arrest the problem before the damage becomes too extensive. 2722 ASRT-B is part of the ShoreBest™ ASRestore™ suite of products for the prevention, remediation, and restoration of ASR and the damage caused by it. Preparation
Remove all sealers or coatings that may prohibit the absorption of the 2722 into the concrete. Clean the concrete until free of oils, dirt, and organic debris with the proper ASRestore cleaning product (contact you ShoreBest Representative for details). Provide protection for surfaces not receiving treatment and pedestrian traffic. Barriers should be placed on non-level concrete to prevent runoff of 2722 ASRT-B, thus allowing maximum absorption of product. All projects should start with a test application to determine the suitability of the product, acceptable application methods and absorption rates. Test areas of at least 100 square feet are recommended and should involve the worst area to receive treatment. Application
In most applications, the objective is to impregnate as much 2722 as possible into the concrete. Substrates displaying the characteristic map cracking damage require and should absorb more material than visually sound concrete. Flood the surface of dry or lightly dampened concrete by spray application to the point of ponding, and allow absorption into the concrete. Repeat this process to a point of saturation where the concrete refuses additional absorption. In hot, dry, or windy conditions it will be advantageous to mist the surface with potable water to counteract the effects of water evaporation. If white salts appear on the surface, more potable water should be used to mist the surface so that the concrete may then absorb the material. Coverage rates generally need to be at least 6 gallons per 1000 ft² with higher rates required for more highly affected concrete. 2722 ASRT-B may also be applied by vacuum impregnation, pressure injection, or electrochemical means. Coverage rates will vary with application type and absorption rate of concrete. The minimum therapeutic amount of lithium needed to suppress the ASR activity is dependent on the alkali content of the concrete and whether there is continuing challenge by applied alkalis such as deicing salts. Petrographic and/or chemical analysis of a core sample may be necessary to determine optimum treatment protocol. Once the optimum amount of lithium ion is impregnated into the concrete, consideration should be given to take the final step, by using the appropriate ASRestore™ product to protect the concrete from further damage. Technical Data
Limitations
2722 ASRestore Treatment B is for use by professional contractors only. Multiple applications may be necessary to mitigate ASR. Preparing concrete with proper products is essential for best coverage. Keep from freezing. Safety
All applicators must wear OSHA recommended protective equipment. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not ingest or inhale the product or use for any non-recommended purposes. Dried material is an oxidizer that must be kept away from oils and organic materials. Refer to the proper MSDS Sheet for more details. Warranty
