2422 Seretreat 10% Federal VOC 600 &
2423 Seretreat 10% OTC VOC 400

Seretreat 2422 and 2423 are both 10% solids siloxane resin solutions in low odor solvent carriers that gives deep penetration into the masonry surface for a long lasting hydrophobic effect. In most cases, there is little or no color change in the appearance of the treated masonry.

Seretreat is a reactive copolymer which does not require a catalyst and will treat all porous masonry to form a durable water repellent surface and subsurface. Successful applications have been made on brick, concrete, unpolished marble, limestone, unpolished slate and sandstone. 2422 Seretreat 10% Federal VOC 600 meets the Federal EPA requirements for VOC content, less than 600 grams/liter as calculated by EPA Method 24 and can be used in areas where the Federal regulations have not been superceded by state or local regulations. 2423 Seretreat 10% OTC VOC 400 has the same performance of 2422 but is formulated with special solvents to meet the more stringent VOC requirements of the Ozone Transport Commission (OTC) member states. The VOC content is less than 400 grams/liter as calculated by the more stringent method of excluding the volume of exempt solvents from the formula. Do not thin or dilute as this will likely violate VOC requirements.

VOC Content and Regulations

VOC stands for volatile organic compounds. While the actual definition is complex and depends on the type of products in which they are used, VOCs can generally be thought of as the solvent content of consumer products like polishes, cleaners, and paint removers and architectural and industrial maintenance coatings like paints and water repellants. Regulating (restricting) the amount of VOCs in products is one of the many ways government entities are trying to reduce air pollution by controlling the amount of hydrocarbons released into the atmosphere...Click here to read more about VOC regulations.

Preparation & Application
Seretreat’s is highly effective because it is extremely reactive with water. All surfaces, subsurfaces, and equipment must be completely dry to allow the material to penetrate before reaction with the substrate. Protect all non masonry surfaces from dripping or over spray. Provide protection for windows, foliage, adjacent surfaces that are not to receive treatment, vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Take precautions to protect other surfaces from wind drift. Using the method to be used on the project, apply an area of 10 square feet to calculate the coverage rate per gallon and to determine if there will be any unacceptable color change. For most masonry, coverage rates should be between 70 to 200 square feet per gallon. All masonry surfaces should be clean, surface and subsurface dry prior to application. A spray application is preferred but roller and brush applications can be successful as long as there is complete surface saturation. Spray equipment must be clean and equipped with solvent resistant hoses and gaskets. Apply with a coarse low pressure spray creating a saturating 6 to 10 inch run down of the fluid. On extremely porous surfaces, use the pre wet and flood coat application method. Do not apply in conditions of condensing humidity (dew) or if rain is expected within 24 hours of application or before all of the solvent has completely evaporated.

Limitations
Seretreat products are to be applied by professional applicators that use this type of material in the regular course of their business. All masonry surfaces must be free of any agent or agents that will prevent penetration of the fluid. Application should not be undertaken when rain is eminent within 24 hours or if there is frost or ice in the surface. The best results are obtained when surface and ambient temperatures are at least 40 degrees and rising. 2423 Seretreat 10% OTC VOC 400 should not be appied if temperatures are expected to be below 50 for more than one hour during the first 4 hours after application. Do not alter the product with any other material. Seretreat products are not acceptable for most split face hollow core concrete block. If the fluid comes in contact with window glass or other non masonry surfaces, remove immediately with a solvent soaked rag. Do not return unused product to the original container. Close the factory container after each withdrawal. Clean all equipment with solvent after application has been completed for the day.

Safety
All applicators must wear OSHA or NIOSH recommended protective equipment. Seretreat contains a petroleum solvent that should not be inhaled or ingested. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not smoke, eat or drink during application or expose the fluid to open flames due to over spray or spillage. Refer to the proper MSDS Sheet for persons exposed to or reacting to the product.
