2112 Grimerase
Description
2112 is one of the new generation of restoration cleaners that do not contain hydrofluoric acid. This restoration cleaner is most effective as a maintenance cleaner on masonry that is lightly to moderately soiled. It may also be used as a restoration cleaner for older masonry in a similar condition. Most heavy industrial pollution will require the use of HF products or a two step cleaning system using an alkaline pretreatment followed by 2112 Grimerase.
Technical Data
Preparation
Provide protection for foliage, auto and pedestrian traffic. Test all painted and anodized surfaces and all other non-masonry surfaces for possible adverse reactions. Protect all surfaces and surrounding areas from possible damage which might occur from spillage or spray during usage. Window glass does not require protection.
All projects should start with a test application to determine the suitability of the cleaner, acceptable application method, dwell time and in some cases dilution ratio. When cleaning heavily soiled surfaces, the cleaner is most often used undiluted. Test areas of at least 10 square feet are recommended and should involve the most severely contaminated area. When possible, the test area should be left to age for 10 or more days to check for possible latent adverse reactions that might require a change in the cleaner selection or cleaning method. Application
Pre-wet the surface prior to the application of the undiluted or diluted cleaner. Apply the cleaner with either acid brushes or low pressure spray. Spray application should not be done at pressures greater than 40 p.s.i. Leave the cleaner on the surface for the appropriate time as determined during testing. Do not let the cleaner dry on the surface. Scrubbing with stiff masonry brushes may be beneficial in some cases. Remove the cleaner with pressure rinsing equipment that provides a minimum flow rate of 3.5 g.p.m. and offers a series of fan tips not narrower than 15 degrees and up to 25 degrees in width. Avoid the use of “laser” tips and other pressure acceleration tips. Always be aware of cleaner drift during application and rinsing to avoid possible damage.
Limitations
2112 Grimerase is for use by professional contractors only. Some heavy soiling conditions may require either two applications or a two step cleaning method with the first application being 2140 Masonry Restorer NA followed by the 2112 Grimerase. The need for this method should be established during the testing phase of the project. Refer to the 2140 Masonry Restorer NA Data Sheet for more information on this procedure.
Safety
All applicators must wear OSHA recommended protective equipment. 2112 Grimerase contains Hydrochloric Acid. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and protective clothing. Diluted and undiluted product can cause severe burns. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not ingest or inhale the cleaner, modify the cleaner with any substance other than water or use the cleaner for any non-recommended purposes. Refer to the proper MSDS Sheet for treatment for persons exposed to or reacting to the cleaner.
