2040 Custom Masonry Cleaner
2040 Custom Masonry Cleaner is the modern day answer to many new masonry cleaning problems. The old formulas for proprietary masonry cleaners have had only minor changes for more than 30 years while the industry has undergone several substantial changes in materials and methods. 2040 brings new masonry cleaning into the 21st century with a custom blend of acids, inhibitors and special additives. This product is suitable for most clay masonry, natural stone, precast concrete and site cast concrete cleaning.
Advantages
A more highly concentrated cleaner that is designed to react with regular and high strength mortars. The higher concentration also results in a lower cost for each diluted gallon used.
Contractors that have used the 2040 indicate that it is easier to rinse and leaves no latent film on the surface that would require re-rinsing. 2040 reacts faster with mortar smears and reduces labor costs often required for hand scraping. In most cases, pressure rinsing is all that is required for a good cleaning project. 2040 is highly inhibited to minimize the possibility of negative reactions with construction metals and spray equipment. Preparation
Provide protection for foliage and pedestrian traffic. Test all non-masonry surfaces for possible negative reaction. Shut off all ventilation intakes, close all other entrances to the structure and provide protection to insure that no cleaner enters the structure during application and rinsing of the surface. Protect all surrounding areas from possible damage which might occur from spillage or spray during usage.
All projects should start with a test application to determine the suitability of the cleaner, acceptable application methods and dilution ratios. Test areas of at least ten square feet are recommended and should involve the worst area of soiling. When possible, the test area should be left to age for 10 or more days to check for possible latent reactions. Application
Pre-wet the surface prior to the application of the properly diluted cleaner. Start with the weakest dilution and test until an acceptable dilution is determined for the project. Apply the diluted cleaner with either acid brushes or low pressure spray. Spray application should never be done at pressures greater than 50 p.s.i. Leave the cleaner on the surface for 2 to 5 minutes depending upon the dilution ratio and temperature, scrub with a stiff masonry brush, remove heavy smears with a wood paddle and remove the cleaner and contaminants with either a hose or pressure washer. When using a pressure washer, pressures of 600 to 2,500 p.s.i. and minimum flow rates of 4 gallons per minute have been used successfully by experienced contractors. In many cases, the use of a properly equipped pressure washer can reduce or eliminate the need for hand scrubbing and rubbing of the surface. Care must be exercised to avoid driving the cleaner into the surface creating a condition where complete removal is not possible. Avoid using wands equipped with "laser" or other tips that might cause damage to the masonry surface. In all cases, a thorough rinsing is required. Limitations
2040 Custom Masonry Cleaner is for use by professional contractors only. Type "S" mortars should be cleaned every 7 to 10 days to achieve the best results. High strength mortars and mortar that is left on the surface for more than 60 days may be difficult to remove or may not be removed at all. 2040 is safe for use on most metallic sensitive clay masonry and colored concrete masonry units. Glazed or polished surfaces are not acceptable for cleaning. Testing is required prior to use for all projects.
