SB2500 Acid Neutralizer

SB 2500 Acid Neutralizer is a dry powdered material for use in the raising of the pH of acidic rinse water as it reaches the ground during the cleaning of masonry surfaces. SB 2500 can be spread around the drop area of a structure or mounded around drains, gutters and hard surface paving to neutralize the acidic rinse water prior to outflow from the work area. In order to meet many EPA requirements, the objective is to adjust the runoff to a pH of 7, plus or minus 1, during the operation.

35 pounds of 2500 Acid Neutralizer will neutralize 0.7 pound-mole of acid. This is roughly equivalent to 8.4 gallons of concentrated (32%) muriatic acid or 3 gallons of concentrated (49%) HF. Most HF will be converted to an insoluble mineral form. Most properly formulated cleaners are not as highly concentrated so the amount of cleaner neutralized will be 2 to 3 times higher than the figures stated above.

Preparation

Determine the area or areas where rinse water will be flowing from the structure or into the ground.

Dilution and Coverage

Dilution: Product is used undiluted.

Coverage: Dependent upon substrate and other conditions.

Application

For ground absorption, apply a liberal coating of SB 2500 to the area where rinse water will come in contact with the soil. The drop area is generally two to three feet from the base of the structure. For drains and hard surface paving, construct a mounded catch barrier two to three inches in height of SB 2500. All of the effluent requiring neutralization is to pass through this barrier in order to effect neutralization. From time to time, pH paper is to be soaked in the rinse solution after it has passed through the barrier. Compare the color change to the color guide and change the barrier when the pH reading of 6 or lower has occurred. After several readings, a timing factor can be determined as to how often the pH reading might be required. Once the pH declines below 6, remove and replace the exhausted material. Dispose of the spent material according to local, state and federal requirements.

SB 2500 Acid Neutralizer if for use by professional contractors only. All data applies to ShoreBest products only and may not be applicable to other manufacturers products. Exposure to acids will result in the release of carbon dioxide gas and heat. The SB 2500 Acid Neutralizer is not suitable for indoor use.
